Additive recommendations for Spindle Coolant

Postby BelgiumKingofLeopold » Sun Apr 10, 2016 6:59 am

I have purchased a 2.2kw water cooled spindle and am now testing it. I however do not know the best additive brands to use and the best practices. I am currently using the normal tap water. Its only today that I learned that I should not use normal tap water instead I should use distilled water. What kind of anti-algae additive should I use?

To prevent the growth of algae, just run the coolant pump for about 20 minutes once or twice in week. This will stir the tank and hence help prevent the growth of algae.

Is it true that the anti-freeze should be avoided as it damages the spindle?

have also been using the anti-freeze and de-mineralized water for almost 1.5 years but have had no bad incident. I however don’t run the machine for long.

I have been using a spindle with the anti-freeze for over 4 years but have registered no issue up to date.

Anti- Freeze (The colored fluid) is found in the radiator. The coolant helps in preventing the water found in the engine and the radiator from freezing at cold temperatures.

Other than preventing freezing of water, the coolant will also prevent the water from boiling up during hot times. It also acts as a lubricant, lubricating the moving parts such as the water pump.
