What is this attachment for?

Hi guys, 6 months ago, I acquired a Hitachi router. It is working very well and I like it. However, it came with the attachment below but I have never used it anywhere because I do not know what it is and its function(s). Any idea what this is or at least what it does?

It Is rarely put to use. It is attached to longer fences to ensure stability.
